Gyo-O, part of the Gyozaking Group of restaurants, focuses no Donburi, Gyo-O Roll (fresh sashimi on sushi rice roll), Udon and Tako Yaki.
We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. It certainly helped we arrived early because later on with the meal, there was always a group waiting for the next free table.
The interior is very unique. It is surrounded by wooden planks with Japanese writing on them.
On with the food.
We started with some Tako Wasabi. Salty squid pieces with some eggs.
Rate: + / especially with rice dish
Mentai Mayo Gohan. Rice + Fish Roe + Mayo + Seaweed = win
I ran by this dish first at Gmen and I absolutely loved it. It looks like it also migrated to Gyo-O as well.

Tuna & Salmon Bukkake Udon w/ Spicy Sauce *Cold Udon*
Disclaimer from the restaurant on Bukkake Udon:
Ok, clean up your mind! It’s not what you expect! It originally means put everything on the noodle & mix it up! Seasoning your Bukkake with our special dressing provided to you!
Rate: + / This was my first bukkake udon, and I really enjoy the idea of eating udon this way.
Chicken Nanban
Fried chicken with tartar sauce. Mmm Mmm
Rate: +/- // Although the tartar sauce neat selection, it doesn’t do enough for me to reorder this again.
Negi Ponzu Tako Yaki

Pumpkin Cream Custard
Rate: + /This was a great end to our meal. This custard was not overpowering with all its tastes. The pumpkin was subtle, caramel smooth, and custard filling. I would totally recommend this dessert for anyone who likes custards.

Gyo-O is my first new restaurant I’ve gone in 2010. I believe I just found another new favourite hangout right here in Richmond.
