I went to downtown Vancouver to visit all the Olympic events. So while I was down there, I visited Benkei Noodle Shop down on Robson St. This would not be my first visit, but it has been a while so its a good refresher.
The first Chasu Onigiri came but by the time the waitress let go of it, it started to crumble apart. They quickly took it back and remake it again. That still broke apart at the end, but it tasted good.
The first ramen is the Syoyu. A light soy soup base ramen. It came with the basic green onion, bamboo shoots, chashu, nori, and spinach.
The lovely soup base was salty. I would make sure to dunk the noodles into the soup and get it covered with the soup base before getting a bite. This gives each bite a great burst of taste as the salt will also help bring out the flavours of each ingredient.
My friend Lily enjoying her Syoyu ramen.
Shiro ramen is quite neat. Its a creamy tonkotsu with pan-fried chicken, spinach, butter, herbs, corn, garlic and milk. Think a light creamy soup like cream of corn.
Overall:+
Benkei did not disappoint. I would certainly revisit it, though with so many ramen stores out there, I don’t believe Benkei is the best ramen that I can find yet.
